RFK wants to send people to ‘wellness farms.’ The US already tried that.

 quotes Michael Rembis in an article about Robert Kennedy’s comments saying that Americans “addicted” to opioids, antidepressants, and stimulants should be sent to “wellness farms” to be “re-parented.” Rembis wrote in The Oxford Handbook of Disability History that the physicians, social workers, and state officials who ran colonies and other institutions for disabled individuals in the 19th and 20th centuries were “driven by an ableist logic that was always infused with racialist, gendered, and class-based thinking” in their attempts at “segregating, sterilizing, and generally restricting the world’s disabled population.”
